Based on the characteristics of the TELEFUNKEN M80, the M81 impresses with a low proximity effect, high feedback resistance and a clear mid-range. Compared to the M80, however, the treble range is slightly lower, resulting in an overall flatter frequency response. The result is a microphone with body, substance and clarity, which is well suited to taming sharper voices or guitars or to providing toms, percussion, horns or thin-sounding sources with a richer sound.
