James Pierpont’s 1857 Jingle Bells is subjected to certain stylistic variations, but a couple of the performers make various attempts at sabotage. There are clashes and crashes until discipline is restored, and then the music runs happily to its conclusion. While the score is playful, it is by no means simplistic. There are challenges for all members of the ensemble which, by the way, isn’t without a sense of humour!
