Tadpoles is a prologue to the composer’s work Frogs. In this piece, the audience hears the young creatures beginning to leap, growing more confident with each jump, until they reach a joyous hoping conclusion. Trombone glissandi, Flex-a-tone, and slide whistle compliment this whimsical piece for young band that uses only the first seven notes that beginners are introduced to. An excellent exercise in teaching « leaps », this piece also comes with an optional alternate horn part that is set in a lower range to accommodate all teaching situations.
